Sorrel is a drink straight out of the tribe of Benjamin, and is known as a diuretic herb aiding in the maintenance of inflammation. Sorrel is more commonly known as Hibiscus, and also assists in the healthy flow of urine, and helps to treat bacterial infections.
Ingredients
3 cups of dried hibiscus (sorrel)
8 inches of fresh ginger
4 cinnamon sticks
Peel of 2 oranges
Agave to taste (start with 1 cup and adjust as necessary)
6 cups of water to dilute (if desired)
Directions
- Simmer all the ingredients for at least 15 minutes. Simmer for up to 30/40 minutes for deeper flavor.
- Allow to cool and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight.
- Strain mixture to remove herbs, peels, and other solid bits.
- Serve over ice after diluting with water if desired. You can also add rum for an amped up adult version. Enjoy!
Tip: Chop or grate the ginger for a more potent flavor. My version is a lot stronger than most. If you are afraid things may be too bold even with diluting, cut all ingredients listed in half and build from there to your liking.
